Drift
An apparel brand that described an artist to three people as “you know, the wave guy.”
The problem
Drift needed a surf illustrator it had definitely seen. The internal search term was the wave guy, deployed hopefully across Slack, and it returned sympathy rather than results.
Everyone remembered the work. Nobody remembered the name, and the wave guy is not a query any search engine has been trained to resolve, though several have tried.
With Artkive
Now the search term is style tags and medium, which is less charming and considerably more effective.
Every artist is captured with skills, software and a note about what made them stand out. Descriptions like the wave guy still get used internally, but they now resolve to a record with a name on it.
