Quarry
An RPG publisher whose artist notes were written on the back of a printed map.
The problem
Quarry ran its art commissioning from handwritten notes on the reverse of a playtest map, which was portable, charming, and destroyed by a coffee in the second week of a rulebook cycle.
What survived was illegible and partial. Three artists in the margin were reduced to first names, and one to the word cartographer, underlined twice, which narrowed things down to an entire profession.

Notes moved somewhere spill-resistant, which is a low bar that the previous system nonetheless failed to clear.
Cartographers, interior illustrators and cover artists are tagged separately, each with rates and turnaround times recorded, so a rulebook can be cast from the roster rather than from memory and stationery.
