Meridian
An ad agency that budgeted for illustration and spent the budget on looking for illustrators.
Meridian could tell you the exact cost of commissioning a campaign illustrator. It could not tell you the cost of the eleven hours spent each month finding one, because nobody had ever thought to count.
The hours hid inside other tasks. A little searching before the brief, a little more during, a frantic amount the night before the pitch. None of it appeared on a timesheet under the heading looking for someone we already found once.
We counted the hours, which was the genuinely uncomfortable part, then removed most of them.
Illustrators now get captured the moment they are noticed rather than the moment they are needed. The search that used to precede every brief has become a filter applied during it.
